the last couple of weeks have been a mixture of slight laziness: laying in bed, catching up on power.
the time change still having some effect on our body clocks. keeping us awake until 3:00 in the morning and allowing us to sleep until noon.
necessary sleep, of course. i am still exhaling after completing my master's degree and hubby is catching up on much needed sleep from over-working during the month of june.
but the days have also been filled with adventure. research on magical caribbean women. food. tons of food. walking. getting lost. enjoying getting lost.
enjoying the worlds that present themselves to us every time we exit the underground station.
we have enjoyed journeying to cities like shoreditch. a town with walls littered with graffiti. crafting our own tales behind the art.
walking along narrow back roads. stumbling into chocolate shops that smell of chocolate and comfort. a shop, dark sugars that felt like... happiness.
scouring the variety of chocolates, housed in brown wooden bowls. chocolates from africa. matcha chocolate. vegan chocolates. liquid sea salt chocolate.
sipping on white matcha and salted caramel hot chocolates. scoops of chocolate settling on top. heaven. yes.
journeying to black owned jerk chicken joints. friends. laughing. and chatting. and laughing. and chatting. and eating. and enjoying. and fully immersing ourselves in a culture. the culture. this culture.
we have enjoyed the festivals. africa utopia. a beautiful chocolate girl and her guitar. crooning about love.
doing a cover of 'pony.' yes, ginuwine. yes: jump on it, let's do it. and yes, she killed it.
journeying through the smells of kenya. and nigeria. and ghana. chicken sol. and jollof rice. and plantains. jerk chicken. and slaw. coconuts. real coconuts. they hacked the top off. we hydrated with coconut water.
my husband: we don't have coconut water like this back home!
journeying through the sounds of live bands. and trumpets. and drums. and flutes. and "go head boy, play that saxophone!" and heads bobbing.
smiles beaming. bodies moving. grooving to the beat. and happiness and a good time swarming through the air.
journeying through our laughs and our smiles. and the happiness and wonder and childlike excitement that fill our eyes. we are enjoying the cultures.
we are enjoying the little things: the lilies planted as you step off the train. the smells. the familiar. the budding. the blossoming. they reminded me of my grammie.
we are enjoying the diversity within the spaces we have occupied. we are here.
we. are. here.
